Research Strategy Our Approach

We aim to design a society that balances the self-expression and uniqueness of the individual with the Well-being of the overall community. In this article, we will look at the methods and tools we employ to realize our vision of a balanced society that is centered on Well-being.

Well-being Design Framework Co-creating a Society
that Prioritizes Well-being

We are actively researching the Well-being Design Framework with the goal of shaping a society that is focused on Social Well-being. This framework functions as a design methodology that promotes the co-creation of services and social systems with a diverse group of people while using Well-being as a benchmark instead of economic growth. In this methodology, the people designing services and social systems can work towards ensuring their own Well-being while gradually expanding the circle of people involved in the process in order to ultimately create a state of Well-being for the largest number of people possible. Within this framework, we are working to develop a system that both supports the formation of communities focused on Social Well-being while also measuring the current state of Well-being in these communities.

Support
In our efforts to design a community centered on Social Well-being, we're focused on developing technologies and tools that promote mutual understanding and trust between diverse individuals.
One example of this is our product, Cards for Collective Well-being. These cards are designed to facilitate conversations about what aspects of Well-being are valued by different individuals and groups.
Another example is our work in developing tactile transmission devices that seek to foster intimacy, empathy, and trust through physical touch. We are also continuing to research and evolve our Self-as-We workshops, where team members reflect on and share their positive relationships with themselves and the team from the Self-as-We perspective.

Measure
We are constantly exploring new ways to measure the intangible and invisible nature of Well-being using both psychology and engineering perspectives.
In our psychology-based approach, we aim to quantitatively measure philosophical concepts by turning them into measurable scales through questionnaires. For example, we have created a scale to measure the concept of ""Self-as-We"" from seven different perspectives, evaluating how individuals feel about this concept within their respective groups. By conducting surveys using this scale and analyzing the responses, we can measure the state of Well-being in the group at any particular moment.
We are also exploring how we can measure Well-being from an engineering perspective that focuses on assessments utilizing objective data, such as a person's physical state.

Collaborations We are Collaborating in the Following Fields

Corporate HR
We support the human resources (HR) and digital transformation (DX) departments at various companies by carrying out team building exercises focused on promoting Well-being in the workplace.
Education
We help schools better consider Well-being when designing classes and extracurricular activities.
Regional Revitalization
We collaborate with local governments, individuals, and tourism organizations to connect local communities with other regions with the aim of building communities focused on Well-being.
