Position under active recruitment: Research and development on environment and socioeconomic nexus forecasting technology

  • Creating a world in which the natural environment, economy, and society coexist and prosper through digital twins

Aiming to create a world of co-existence and co-prosperity, we are promoting research and development on a "digital twin" that includes the natural environment, economic activities, and social activities as well as new indicators to evaluate these R&D activities.

What are the key points about environment and socioeconomic nexus forecasting technology?

Our goal is to create a digital twin of the real world where the natural environment, economy, and society are interrelated.

■By linking various simulators developed by experts in the natural environment and economics, we can more precisely reproduce complex systems and events and predict how economic and social decisions will affect the future of the natural environment. We will also work on automated and efficient processing technologies necessary for collaboration among models from different fields.

■Comprehensively understanding the natural environment, economy, and society, we will apply an index to our predictive assessments that comprehensively evaluate the richness of nature, people, and things in terms of not only economic wealth but also the richness of the natural environment and resources as well as human health and education. The effects of changes in economic and social activities in a particular region on the natural environment will be evaluated with the new index in a manner that allows us to present better decision-making options.

■We reproduce changes that economic and social activities in specific regions exert on the natural environment by leveraging information such as sensing data, satellite data, and human-flow data. We then evaluate these changes with new indicators to provide better decision-making options.

Toward sustainable prosperity between economic activities and the global environment

In recent years, extreme weather and environmental destruction, which are frequently reported in the news, are forcing a paradigm shift in human activities that considers their impact on the global environment. Considering the mutual impacts between the global environment and local environments, our group conducts research aimed at the coexistence of the environment and human society based on future forecasting of human activities in society and the economy. While mutual impacts of complexly intertwined phenomena and long-term forecasting are very challenging topics, we are addressing them from various perspectives, such as predictions through collaboration of models in different fields and adaptation of new indicators. If you are interested in global environmental issues or social challenges, please feel free to contact us.
