Creating a world in which the natural environment, economy, and society coexist and prosper through digital twins
Aiming to create a world of co-existence and co-prosperity, we are promoting research and development on a "digital twin" that includes the natural environment, economic activities, and social activities as well as new indicators to evaluate these R&D activities.
■By linking various simulators developed by experts in the natural environment and economics, we can more precisely reproduce complex systems and events and predict how economic and social decisions will affect the future of the natural environment. We will also work on automated and efficient processing technologies necessary for collaboration among models from different fields.
■Comprehensively understanding the natural environment, economy, and society, we will apply an index to our predictive assessments that comprehensively evaluate the richness of nature, people, and things in terms of not only economic wealth but also the richness of the natural environment and resources as well as human health and education. The effects of changes in economic and social activities in a particular region on the natural environment will be evaluated with the new index in a manner that allows us to present better decision-making options.
■We reproduce changes that economic and social activities in specific regions exert on the natural environment by leveraging information such as sensing data, satellite data, and human-flow data. We then evaluate these changes with new indicators to provide better decision-making options.
1Research and development on coupled-simulation technology

(1) Coupled simulation: Linking simulators in different fields (such as environment and economy) to manage large-scale time series data, build infrastructure for collaboration and analysis, and study methods for collaborative processing, analysis related to earth science and economic activities, and social implementation.
(2) Automation and optimization: To enable models with different data formats and throughputs to be linked, study methods for automation and optimization using machine-learning technology, etc., conduct demonstration tests, and implement the methods.

Desirable knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience

2Research and development on mutual-impact assessment

(1) Investigate adapting new indicators to existing models: Investigating indicators that comprehensively evaluate the richness of nature, people, and things (including the richness of the natural environment, resources, and society) and apply them to evaluation methods.
(2) Study new models in specific regions: Build simulators in specific regions and industrial sectors to which new indicators are applied, manage and analyze time-series data, and study methods for adapting and implementing new indicators in society.
