大阪・関西万博に設置された「ふれあう伝話」は、振動を伝える・伝え合うことで、初めて出会う人々の間にも「つながり」を生み出しました。そこで使われていた振動触覚伝送の技術をさまざまな場面に適用することで、新しい「つながり」の価値が生まれつつあります。この展示では、その実例として、以下の取り組みを紹介します。

"Fure-au Denwa," which was installed at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, created "connections" between people who met for the first time by conveying and communicating vibrations to each other. By applying the vibrotactile transmission technology used there to various situations, a new value of "connection" is beginning to emerge. This exhibit introduces the following initiatives as examples of these efforts.

「ふれあう伝話」

「ふれあう伝話」は、映像と音声に加え、テーブルをたたくと相手側のテーブルに振動が伝わり、お互いのテーブルがつながって相手が目の前にいるような感覚でやり取りできる装置です。知らない人との偶然の出会いや、その初めて出会った人と“ふれあう” コミュニケーションまでを実現します。振動が伝わり合うことで、非言語で相手を実感し、関わりを深められる機会をつくります。従来の“電話” ではなく、一人ひとりのコミュニケーションの意味や価値、そして物語を大切にする思いを込めて、「ふれあう伝話」と名付けました。

“Fure-au Denwa”

"Fure-au Denwa" is the device in which, in addition to video and audio, transmits vibrations: when you tap the table on your side, vibrations are delivered to the other person’s table, so that your two tables feel connected and you can interact as if the other person were right in front of you. It enables serendipitous encounters with strangers, and vibrotactile communication with people you are meeting for the first time. By exchanging vibrations, you can sense the other person nonverbally and gain opportunities to deepen your relationship. We named it “Fure-au Denwa” instead of a conventional “telephone” to express our wish to cherish the meaning, value, and stories of each individual’s communication.

「せかいがきこえる伝話」

声で紡がれるさまざまな物語を生んできた公衆電話。大阪・関西万博の「せかいがきこえる伝話」では、そうした“つながり物語” を聞くことができました。この装置は、NTT 東日本との連携で活躍の場を広げています。東京・初台の「Wellness Lounge ™」では、来場者のウェルネスをサポートするプログラムとして活用されています。「地域循環型ミライ研究所」では、声を“小千谷市の音” に置き換え、地域の魅力を引き出し、人と地域をつなぐきっかけとしての利用が検討されています。

• せかいがきこえる伝話：親しい人や遠い国の人との会話など、公衆電話でのやり取りを含む10種類の物語を紡ぐ音声が聞こえます。
• 小千谷の音に耳を澄まそう：祭りの音や、街の中の音、小千谷市にまつわるさまざまな音が流れ、小千谷とのつながりが醸成されます。
• ブッダAI の煩悩相談（タブレット版）：京都大学が開発した、仏教経典を学習し悩みに答えるAI「ブッダボット」との対話が聞こえます。

“Denwa for Listening to the Universe”

Public telephones have given birth to a variety of narratives woven with voices. I was able to hear such "connection stories" at “Denwa for Listening to the Universe” at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. This system is expanding its use in cooperation with NTT East. The Wellness Lounge(TM) in Hatsudai, Tokyo, is used as a program to support the wellness of visitors. At the Mirai Research Institute for Community Recycling, we are considering replacing voices with the sounds of Ojiya City to bring out the appeal of the region and use them as opportunities to connect people and communities.

• “Denwa for Listening to the Universe”: You can listen to voices weaving 10 kinds of stories, including conversations with people close to you or from distant countries, on public phones.
• Listen for the Sounds of Ojiya: The sounds of festivals, the sounds of the city, and other sounds related to Ojiya City are played to foster a connection with Ojiya.
• Buddha AI's Bonno Counseling (Tablet Version): You can listen to a dialogue with Buddha Bot, an AI developed by Kyoto University that learns Buddhist scriptures and answers your worries.

「身体性オンライン面会システム」

赤ちゃんが予定日より早く小さく生まれて入院すると、家族は赤ちゃんと離れて過ごす日々を送ります。それは３カ月から半年と長くなることもあります。その間、家族は赤ちゃんを抱くこともできず、さびしさや何もしてあげられない罪悪感が生じやすい状況です。中には、病院が遠く、思うように会えない家族もいます。「身体性オンライン面会システム」は、赤ちゃんの姿を映したデバイスから赤ちゃんの心拍の振動が伝わる装置です。優しく胸に抱くと、自分の大切な存在が近くに感じられます。通信を介し、遠隔にいても体験することができます。

“Embodied Online Visitation”

When a baby is born earlier and smaller than expected and requires hospitalization, the family spends their days separated from their baby. This period can last as long as three to six months. During that time, the family cannot even hold their baby, often experiencing a sense of disconnection and guilt for not being able to do anything for their baby. Some families live far from the hospital and cannot visit as often as they wish. The “Embodied Online Visiting System” is composed of devices that transmit the baby’s heartbeat as vibrations, along with a monitor that shows the baby’s image. When held to the chest, it allows families to feel the presence of their baby close to them. This experience can be felt remotely through online communication.

「会議の質を高める未来の会議室」

さまざまな場面で実施される「会議」。複数の人が同じ空間で時間を共有する中、常にスムーズに進むとは限りません。話が脱線したり、アイデアに詰まったりと、停滞する場面もあります。「未来の会議室」には、会議の進行に目を配り、必要に応じて手助けしてくれるいくつかの技術が備わっています。例えば、進行が停滞すると、デジタルヒューマンが表情やしぐさ、そして手元の振動などで、さりげなく知らせてくれます。会議の空間自体が参加者に気づきを与え、“良い会議”へと導いてくれる「未来の会議室」を体験してください。

“The Future of Meeting Rooms : Enhancing Quality”

“The Future of Meeting Rooms” is a system which keeps an eye on the flow of the meeting and provides real-time assistance when necessary. Meetings take place in various settings, but when multiple people share the same space and time, discussions don’t always run smoothly. e.g. talks may go off track causing delays. Futuristic meeting rooms visualize the situation with graphs showing trends in deviation, and when issues arise, it discreetly alerts participants through subtle vibrations, accompanied by expressions and gestures from a digital human. Experience “The Future of Meeting Rooms,” which inspires awareness and guide participants toward better meetings.

A journey to touch new landscapes

「バイブロスケープ」

バイブロスケープは、サウンドスケープ（音風景）に由来し、視覚・聴覚だけでなく触覚も含む概念です。風景の中で得られる視覚、聴覚、そして歩行に伴う触覚など、多様な感覚で記録したコンテンツを、モニターに映る他者の身体を介して体感できます。映像と音声に加え、動きによって生じる振動を足元のセンサーで計測し、そのデータをモニター、ヘッドフォン、足元の振動提示装置で再生します。モニターに映る人物を媒介にして風景を追体験することで、体験者に未知の場所への興味を喚起します。

“Vibro-scape”

“Vibro-scape” is a concept derived from the “soundscape” that extends beyond sight and hearing to include touch. You can experience content recorded with a variety of senses, including sight, hearing, and tactile sensation associated with walking, through the body of another person on the monitor. In addition to video and audio, the vibration generated by movement is measured by a sensor in the foot, and the data is played back by a monitor, headphones, and a vibration display device in the foot. By reliving the landscape mediated by the person on the screen, the experience awakens curiosity about places you have never visited.
