I first encountered NTT when I visited the company as an intern during my graduate school days. Having spent a month in a department that promotes research to create highly reliable systems using virtualization technologies, I wanted to join this company. Since my graduate school days, my dream has been to create systems people say are difficult to create. I am currently working on the research and development of platform systems for the IoT.
Demand for processing a wide range of devices such as sensors, robots, and cars by IoT technologies, connecting them to the Internet, has been growing year by year. On the other hand, as various types of software are installed on a wide variety of devices with IoT technology, systems are required to manage those devices in an integrated manner. We continue to conduct research on a daily basis to develop what is needed in the world, such as developing software that can be updated even remotely.
Research is thinking how we can solve the problem and repeating the POC (Proof of Concept) process. What I'm happy with as a researcher is that the SIC allow us to place importance on this phase. It is one of advantages of the SIC that we benefit from time and environments so that we can think things over.
When the phase terminates, we finally begin to move toward practical use. From this phase, we proceed with development in collaboration with many people including vendor companies. The real pleasure of working in a company laboratory is that we can produce technologies that go out into the world. If you are ambitious, you can challenge yourself early on. This is also one of the features of NTT research laboratories.
I have frequently used the teleworking system since my youngest child was born. It enables you to work at home for up to eight days a month. If you use a personal computer supplied by the company, you can always access your own data. This means you can work free from locations and time. On days when I work at home, I get up earlier in the morning, have breakfast with my children and start working at 7:00. From about 12:00 to 13:00, I have lunch with my wife and younger child and in the afternoon I share the ideas I had in the morning in conference calls, etc. If I decide not to work overtime, I finish at 15:30 or 16:00 and go out to a park with my kids. As I can leave temporarily during the work, when my wife is busy, I may be responsible for picking up my elder child from kindergarten. Being able to spend time with my family is the best refreshment. After returning to my office, I have been able to work again with refreshed feelings.
Many opportunities for active participation are prepared in the SIC, where there are researchers from a wide range of fields ranging from basic research to application, centering on software. I feel that working environments such as teleworking and the discretionary labor system are also fully prepared for achieving the best performance. By all possible means, I want to create solutions with many people for the future.
