Evaluation and control technology for cosmic rays and electromagnetic pulse

Protecting electronic devices and the human body from electromagnetic pulses caused by powerful cosmic rays and solar flares

Current research

In space, powerful cosmic rays and electromagnetic waves are constantly flying around, and their impact on the human body and electronic devices is a major barrier to humankind's advance into space. This technology would elucidate these phenomena, which are currently not fully understood, evaluate them, and allow us to take countermeasures.

With this technology, we will protect astronauts and machines from cosmic rays and electromagnetic waves in outer space, allowing human beings to work safely and freely in outer space, as well as allow us to build livable spaces out of general-purpose parts.

We will study and understand the effects on electronic devices by using particle accelerators and electromagnetic pulse generators that reproduce cosmic rays, and analyze the effects in outer space through cosmic ray simulations. In addition, we will acquire basic data through demonstration tests in outer space and establish technologies (magnetic shields, shielding materials, etc.) that are able to protect from cosmic rays and electromagnetic pulses.

In the future, we will implement this technology in artificial satellites, long-stay manned space equipment, and space data centers.
