Introducing NTT R&D and the NTT Group's world-leading technologies for research, development, and business.
NTT R&D's wide-ranging and world-leading research activities are introduced in the following categories: Network, UI/UX, Sustainability, Security, Bio/Medical, and Quantum.
Research on Speedup and Advancement of Network Supporting Comfortable Life
In recent years, telecommunication services have become increasingly important as social infrastructure, and in the event of a large-scale system failure, it is critical to minimize the impact on telecommunication services and restore them as soon as possible. In order to support accurate and rapid assessment of the situation in an integrated manner, we will exhibit a method to estimate failure locations across network layers and quickly calculate the ripple effects on services through the collaboration of “Knowledge-based autonomous failure-event analysis technology for network (Konan)” and “Network Operation Injected Model (NOIM)”.
Research on the expansion of human five senses to provide new experiences
Aiming to create a "Personalized Sound Zone" optimized for each individual, we introduce "Sound SyReal", which enriches your listening of real sounds by uniquely integrating low-latency acoustic processing that exceeds the speed of sound with sound reproduction through open-ear earphones. You can also experience demonstrations of noise cancellation without covering your ears using headphones and a 6-foot diameter dome device, as well as Acoustic XR that adapts to head movements, and necessary sound detection. These can be used in various fields such as entertainment and tourism.
Research on environmental impact reduction and well-being to realize sustainable global environment
To improve employee performance, it is important for each individual to be well-being and for the group to be doing well together. NTT has been advocating “Social Well-being,” a concept that describes the state of being well as a group. In this exhibition, we will introduce a technology to measure objective Social Well-being using AI, based on objective data such as text and images that are usually exchanged.
Research on security infrastructure for realization of safe and secure digital society
When we try to trade the value of currencies, securities, etc. in the digital space, conventional
technology requires a ledger to record history and balance.
However, there are issues with resilience and equipment costs.
The Digital Currency Protocol is a technology that enables safe and secure payments between users
without a ledger by applying digital signatures.
At the booth, you can see a demonstration of payments using a smartphone, and we will also present
various use cases that can be achieved with this technology.
Medical, exercise, and brain science research to maintain mental and physical health
It measures change in glucose concentration of interstitial fluid in the skin noninvasively using microwaves. It would contribute to discover lifestyle habits that increase glucose levels and identify better diet and exercise habits. At the exhibition booth, we will introduce the watch-size prototype.
Research related to quantum information science to realize innovative computers, communications, sensing, etc.
To realize a large-scale optical quantum computer, we have developed optical device
technologies.
We achieved essential technologies for an optical quantum computer, such as quantum light source with
high-level quantum noise squeezing and high-speed detection techniques for quantum states, by using
NTT's optical device technologies for the first time.
Furthermore, an optical quantum computing machine with these technologies is being assembled at
RIKEN.
Our exhibition booth will show demonstrations of optical devices and an overview of this machine.
NTT R&D and NTT Group companies will introduce practical applications from cutting-edge research on IOWN (APN/PEC/DCI), generative AI, and Aerospace.
The following is an update on the progress of IOWN1.0 and efforts toward IOWN2.0.
A remote video production environment has been established at the NTT Musashino R&D Center. Here, you can not only watch but also experience full-scale live program production by real broadcasting stations. In the past, it was necessary to bring production equipment, such as an OB van, to the filming site. However, by connecting the production base and the filming site via APN, only cameras and filming staff need to be dispatched, allowing production work to be done remotely. We will introduce APN's application in the video production field as a new use case through a hands-on demonstration.
We will introduce real-time data replication technology using the world's first international APN (All-Photonics Network) connecting Japan and Taiwan. This APN enables ultra-high-speed data transfer over approximately 3,000 kilometers with a low latency of just 17 milliseconds each way, facilitating disaster recovery with minimal data loss. At this booth, you can see demonstrations using real machines and detailed use cases.
We are introducing a metaverse space utilizing the world's first international APN (All-Photonics Network) connecting Japan and Taiwan. At this booth, you can access the metaverse from the venue using VR goggles and enjoy conversations with participants in Taiwan through simultaneous interpretation. Experience the future of cross-border and cross-language communication made possible by high-speed cloud rendering enabled by the high-capacity, low-latency APN.
By utilizing high-capacity, low-latency APNs to connect data centers, multiple remote facilities can be managed as if they were a single, unified data center. This approach is gaining attention as a solution to challenges like urban space shortages and the adoption of renewable energy. In this booth, we will use visual aids to illustrate our initiatives both in Japan and abroad, optimized control technologies for enhanced energy efficiency, and applications in the field of communications.
We will be showcasing the actual DCI (Data Centric Infrastructure) that implements Photonics-Electronics Convergence Technology, a key component in realizing IOWN. Additionally, we would like to present the results of our demonstration test of "RDMA over APN," a core technology within DCI that we announced in February this year, which achieved up to a 60% reduction in power consumption. These exhibits will provide an overview of DCI's current status.
This section showcases the real-time video processing technology that will be enabled in APN Step 3. In live video distribution, which is gaining significant attention as a business tool, creating rich content through AI processing and other technologies typically requires specialized equipment and skilled staff. At this booth, we will demonstrate how high-quality video can be delivered using simple equipment by connecting the video processing functions installed in the network to the shooting base via a high-capacity, low-latency APN.
In addition to the latest version of tsuzumi, we introduce R & D and application examples of generative AI.
NTT Laboratories aims to equip the large-scale language model "tsuzumi" with advanced reading capabilities to efficiently solve complex tasks on behalf of humans. Specifically, we are working on developing a feature that enables visual comprehension of images and user interfaces, allowing tasks to be performed through natural dialogue. At our exhibition booth, we will showcase business use cases requiring visual comprehension technology, such as purchase processes on e-commerce sites and application workflows, allowing visitors to experience the new capabilities of tsuzumi firsthand.
NTT Laboratories is working to upgrade its operations to provide better network and services to customers, and aiming to realize zero-touch operations that can autonomously respond to complex and unknown faults. In the research and development of Network-AI technologies necessary for this realization, we believe that the application of generative AI such as large-scale language models (LLM), which are currently attracting attention, is particularly important. In this exhibition, we will explain the overall concept for advanced network operations and the elemental technologies related to generative AI.
This technology utilizes LLM to enable a robot to appropriately understand its surroundings and spontaneously generate tasks and take action.
Competitors' robots require human assistance and specific instructions (e.g., put an apple on a plate), but this technology allows the robot to act spontaneously based on the role, capabilities, and sensor information given to it.
This technology is expected to be used in the service industry to assist and monitor the daily lives of the elderly and other people.
You can see a demonstration of actual service at our exhibition booth.
Through discussions between AIs in the AI Constellation, you can see the superiority of the single LLM in a dynamic demonstration, and we will also introduce a specific use case example of using AI discussions between citizens. In addition, as a future vision of the AI Constellation, we will exhibit an installation showing how it solves complex future social problems.
Cycle-Ops enhances cybersecurity operations—from threat identification to defense, detection, response, and recovery—through effective collaboration between humans and AI. We will show how we leverage NTT's unique security expertise and the latest LLM technology to generate security reports tailored to diverse business users, based on external threats, user intent, and internal organizational context. We will also present demos supporting various security research activities.
