Our main goal is to understand three kinds of sensory representations. The first kind is the representation of perceptual information included in the physical sensory signals. This basic representation is detected by the sense organs and analysed by the brain to create our subjective experience. The second kind is the representation of sensory information within the brain. This representation relates to the neural state of the observer's brain while she/he perceives. The third representation relates to the use of technology to present artificial sensory information in a novel way, such as a display making use of a sensory illusion. Through integrative research on the three types of sensory representations, we can deepen our scientific understanding of human perception, and consider future information technologies that are conceptually novel and user-friendly.
