量子光制御研究グループ

研究テーマ・分野

光と物質の量子力学的な性質を制御し、情報通信処理のための新しいコンセプトを開拓するために、光と物質の相互作用に関する物理から、光の量子性を利用した通信応用に至る広い範囲の研究を行っています。 主なテーマは、量子光通信実験とそれを支える光子の制御技術、光と冷却原子気体との相互作用による量子シミュレーションです。二年前からは、「革新的研究開発推進プログラム(ImPACT)」のもとで、光学的な手法を用いた、イジングスピンネットワークを用いた非ノイマン型コンピューティングの研究にも取り組んでいます。

「光格子中のボース粒子の量子相転移の観測」: 数十ナノケルビンという極低温まで冷やした中性原子集団を使って、実験室で量子効果を検証する「量子シミュレーション」に注目が集まっています。この系にレーザーによって作られた光格子と呼ばれる人工結晶を作成することで、固体物理の難問である量子多体問題にアプローチできます。我々は、京都大学と共同で、光格子中のボース粒子の量子相転移を詳細に観測することに成功しました。この結果は、冷却原子を用いた量子シミュレーションを、さらに進展させると期待しています。
「光ファイバを用いた無損失な単一光子波長変換」: 光子を用いて様々な物質を量子的につなぐ量子情報通信において、光子の波長変換は重要です。我々は非線形光学効果の一つである光カー効果と呼ばれる現象を用い、従来法では困難であった損失のない単一光子波長変換を達成しました。量子情報通信のための高効率な波長インターフェースや、観測困難な量子的現象をシミュレートする装置などへの応用が期待されます。
「光パラメトリック発振器による大規模イジングスピンネットワークの実現」:  組み合わせ最適化問題の解探索を効率的に行うコヒーレントイジングマシンの実現に向けて、光結合した多数の縮退光パラメトリック発振器(OPO)による人工的なスピンネットワークの研究が始まっています。 スタンフォード大学では4スピンのネットワークの実証に成功しています。私達は、全長1kmの光ファイバリング共振器内に時分割多重で10000を超える数のOPOの安定動作を達成し、大規模な人工スピン集団を実現しました。更に、隣接するOPO間に光結合を導入して、スピン集団の磁性的な挙動を模擬しました。
