The COVID-19 pandemic has led to drastic changes in our lifestyles, namely the mass transition to remote work. The spread of remote work has made it possible for people to perform their jobs without physically being in the workplace, freeing many people from geographical and time constraints. For example, remote workers are able to relocate more freely as they are no longer required to live close to their workplaces, and the time previously spent on commuting can be used to do other activities.
However, there are limitations to remote work as certain jobs such as essential work (hospitals, pharmacies, supermarkets, etc.) are difficult to do remotely. Even in jobs where remote work is possible, problems such as communication breakdowns may arise. We aim to solve these issues in remote work through the development of telepresence technology and technology for understanding embodied knowledge. Telepresence refers to technology used to understand changes in the local environment and local information necessary for operations from a remote location. Regarding the latter, we are researching methods to systematize and digitally archive physical behaviors generated from knowledge and experience.
